When you write an article about any debatable topic that is relevant to your niche, people start talking and interacting. This is exactly what you want. For example, if you publish an article on article spinning, (which is a greatly talked about subject in the world of blogging), people are bound to be opinionated about it.

Hopefully, after someone reads your post and responds to it, they will talk about it to their friends, and maybe even tweet about it. This allows you to not only get that reader to respond to your post, but it gives you the opportunity to receive a decent amount of traffic from their friends/readers, and so on.
